Master of Science (MSc)

Master of Science with Honours - MSc(Hons)

Students who complete a BSc degree may enrol for MSc(Hons) degree with the permission of the Director of Postgraduate Studies.

MSc(Hons) resembles the BSc(Hons) degree, but is spread over two years, with one year of dedicated research work.

The first year, Part I, involves:

  • taking eight 400-level courses (variations can be negogiated with the Director of Postgraduate Studies) and
  • undertaking an introductory research project.

The second year, Part II, involves:

  • a research project and
  • preparing a thesis for examination

Master of Science by Thesis - MSc

Alternatively, students can take a MSc degree (without Honours) by undertaking only the year research project and thesis (Part II) after completing a BSc(Hons) degree or PGDipSc. A MSc by thesis can be awarded with a Merit of Distinction.
