Abstract

Applications of electron paramagnetic resonance to a variety of chemical problems.

  • Radical ion chemistry in solution. The structure and reactions of aromatic radical ions and ion-pair formation in organic solvents. Recently additivity relationships have been developed and applied to interpretation of spectral data on radical ions and are being extended to ion pair species.
  • Solid state chemistry of unstable paramagnetic species induced by irradiation of silicate minerals. In Zircon, ZrSi0(ÿ4), at least seven species are identified. Their structure and inter relationships are being investigated.
  • Matrix isolation studies of photochemically induced intermediates.
